Whitby

- Quick trip to Whitby on Saturday for Halloween.
- Kids loved it. Boats, seaside, bridges, chips and ruins.
- At the age of four Willow is lost to gothdom. We still blame Aunty Lula.
- Seeing long absent friends was truly great.
- Having to park about 3 miles from anywhere was not.
- The abbeys little Halloween event was interesting. Wish I got to see more of it.
- During the event I went to pick up the car but the Abbey closed while I was away.
This meant that I missed saying goodbye to a good many people who were already gone by the time I came back.
- In fact, there were more friends there who I didn't even get to say hello to thanks to my poor timing.
- Not that it will make up for not doing so in person but... Hi to those we missed and goodbye to those that we actually saw.
- Alison is missing the whole goth scene it seems. Trying to convince her to go with friends and leave the kids with me for the weekend for the next WGW. Friends I ask you to convince and cojole.
- Kids were tired by the end and were glad to get home.
- Sunday saw me paying for over doing things joints wise. Big flare up saw me almost bed bound for the entire day.
- Over all worth it just to see the Wife smile (about the day trip not the agonising arthritis).

Swine flu fail...

Today we received a letter from the kids nursery informing us of two cases of swine flu among staff and kids. They also say that to try and prevent the spread of the VIRUS around the place they will put ANTIBACTERIAL foam wash at the entrance to the nursery for all visitors to use.

So.. Any body actually seen this movie?

www.repo-opera.com

I've just caught the trailer, along with many other interesting looking bits of film, on the Midnight Meat Train DVD(hopefully that will be Clive Barker win).

Colour me intrigued.

**Edit**

Just finished watching midnight meat train. The gore was WAY ott but I still really enjoyed it.

Possible Birthday Collection

As some of you know, Steve Clipstone turns 30 this August . As a consolatory gesture I propose that his friends club together to purchase a kick ass gift.

After much discussion and suggestion (he's not at all helpful in this regard) we got down to motorcycle lessons as something that's pretty funky and memorable for such for such a milestone event as being alive for 3 decades. I'm hoping that we can collect enough between us to cover at least the provisional fee, the CBT and bike hire. If not then I'm sure that we can come up with some cool ideas for what to do with the cash.

If you wanna chip in then drop me a mail at;

admin@95th.org

Grr @ LT

Was mildly annoyed at the short notice LT event changes. Now I realise that they've overtaken another bank holiday, I'm quite pissed off! I can only manage 1 bank holiday event due to work and family commitments. Just as I'm getting back into larping LT mess it up!

I think they did it to me on purpose. ;)

You know that your ISP is pants when...

its the only isp in the world that wont connect to your forums.

Yesterday Virginmedia decided that none of the subdirectories for 95th.org should be accessible, all that displays is a crisp white screen.. So no forums no ftp no email.
3 works fine. Tiscali also so it seems.

My ISP is convinced that its the server i'm using. As every other isp works I'm convinced its virgin media.

So in a bid to prove them wrong I'm asking for the help of you excellent interweb peeps.

Please follow this link then post in the comments weather or not you can see the forum page. Also if you could let me know the isp you're using too.

Any experts with insight are also welcome.

Grrr...

OK I'm bored and interested.

1.What's your favourite tabletop RPG system? The MERP/RoleMaster hybrid of my uni days. Lethal and fun.

2.What's your least favourite? Hmm... White Wolf. Just cos I don't like dots.

3.What system have you not played but want to try? Burning Wheel. The method of social combat intrigues me.

Now answer these questions for yourself and post in your own LJ

Colour me interested.

"Guillermo del Toro has been tapped by Universal to helm remakes of Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, per Variety, along with a big-screen adaptation of Charles Dickens’ final novel The Mystery of Edwin Drood simply titled Drood, and a new take on Kurt Vonnegut’s cult novel, Slaughterhouse-Five. The Oscar nominated helmer, who is currently prepping the Hobbit films with Peter Jackson, will most likely begin with Drood, a murder mystery that Dickens never completed." (Source: Backseat Producers)

Very much like to see these, if they materialise.

Right we have a partial restoration thanks to Lizzi. We have most users (we're missing the latest 5 joins) and the actual content scince the 95th went live has gone walkies. On the up side we get to start from scratch.

Nip onover to the new site 95th.org/ley and log in with the usual id.
Chasing the missing data base is not fun and I'm coming up blank.
The netbook bandwagon.

I jumped on the netboot bandwagon and picked up an advent 4211(basically a re badge of the MSI wind). Was tempted by the eeepc from asus but the 10" screen and bigger storage swung me. So far I'm loving the portability combined with the functionality of having a pc on hand. I had mobile internet on my E61 (phone) but it lacked the versitility I needed when out and about fixing stuff.

The specs are not bad for the size or price.

1.6 Atom cpu
1gb RAM
80gb HDD
all at just over a kilo.

I have it running XP right now, although I was tempted to try it with Ubuntu. The deciding factor was compatibility and that I never have to fix a linux users pc.

Entertainment wise its great as a portable media centre. The screen is nice and bright for movies(the latest Divx codecs run flawlesly) and the sound is good (with headphones, the built in speakers are tinny even for a laptop, but I expected that). It even can handle games. Nothing flash of course, warcraft 3 and vice city seem to run well and I have seen WoW played on one.

I expected to find the lack of an optical drive a bit of a bind until I realised I hadn't used one in 6 months. Here old friendly software like Deamon, Magic disc and Alcohol come in bloody useful, plus I realised that if I need one I've got one on the main media centre pc.

Over all its ace and would reccomend one for those who want something small and portable or just a cheap laptop for surfing, documents and email.

On an entirely unrelated note the co-op made Alisons day today . They carded her for for trying to buy alcohol. She is very pleased that she must look so young! 28 or 18... not a bad spread.
